It’s getting silly.
I’m confused. He’s been performing/touring damn near non-stop and constantly promoting.
I wasn’t crazy about Coachella but people liked it so whatever. Plus we got Veil and some loosie singles (which were all bad, in my opinion) so then I became even more confused.
Now I see the promo for the album and everyone is acting like they’re gagged and like this is something new…but is it??
Taemin always leans into the spooky, mysterious, eerie vague vibe with his promos. And I feel like we’ve been getting promised to see a new side of taemin for years now but idk if it’s just me but I haven’t been seeing it. I’m sorry but new stages and outfits doesn’t impress me anymore. It feels like flashiness and promotion just for the sake of it. What is our end goal? We get that taemin can sing, dance, be mysterious, but what else is there?
I feel like the Guilty era ushered in a western, tim-burton esque aesthetic which I guess was interesting. But it honestly seems like we haven’t really moved past that. Which is actually not a huge deal if that’s actually who taemin is BUT i don’t like that we kept getting sold repackaged versions of this as if it’s something new. His image is basically the same, but with more clothes on lol
I don’t know what they’re so afraid of. Why do they keep promoting and releasing stuff instead of taking a break and getting back to the drawing board? Taemin himself even admitted he came close to quitting music and I’m not surprised. I feel like they’ve become so focused on wide appeal and commerical success but there’s not really anything underneath it.
I get why too. Taemin is very talented and he’s been “tucked away” for a lot of his career. But that’s the past! I don’t think it’s smart for someone in their 30s to make their main goal reaching new audiences. Taemin is technically a legacy act at this point, there’s no real way he’s going to start accumulating a bunch of new fans and “re-do” his career.
What he should actually do is bask in the work that he’s completed and relax a little. I get he probably doesn’t want to become complacent, fall behind and be forgotten about. But that’s just insecurity. The vast majority of people going to his concerts are longtime fans, not new fans. I think he should actually appreciate the fact that he has a dedicated fan base and has the respect of the industry, and use that freedom to actually go away and rethink what he wants to do in life and music.
I’ve said it before that he has the chance to really redefine what it means to be an aging kpop star and really pave a new lane. But instead, it feels like he’s still in the rat race and I don’t understand why. I’m sorry but he literally performed at coachella so WHY was he performing down at the beach water party whatever it was in Busan? How does that make any sense??
And don’t get me started on this tour! SIX North American dates??? What is even the point of this? It’s very much giving “we’ll be in town anyway so might as well” like bffr
