It’s Okay to Set Boundaries Toward Yourself

Ambition is great — but it’s even better when you remain in control.

2–3 minutes

Having dreams, goals, and ambition are are fantastic traits to cultivate. However, there are a lot of distractions on our path to feeling successful.

One that often is overlooked is the distraction that is your own ego.

You don’t need to hurt yourself to become successful. You don’t need to push through burnout. It’s possible to be patient and compassionate with yourself, AND be ambitious. At the end of the day, it’s not up to you to determine if, when, or how your version of success will come.

You just need to trust your gut and be flexible. Trust that inspiration, creativity, and opportunity will strike and that you will be prepared when it does. There’s a bunch of tools, tutorials, hacks, and subscriptions that promise to help us achieve our goals. There’s a million things to learn. When you are overwhelmed with what you “should” do or your “lack the resources” to do it, you probably are pushing too fast.

Do what is easiest first. Tend the roots.

Your latest idea that will make you millions is brilliant, but a little overwhelming. There are a millions things to start and you’re so distracted that everything else becomes more stressful.

How about, you put a pin the new idea and develop what you already have and know? The new thing is almost certainly somewhat connected to the current thing, therefore, you are already somewhat on the path to attaining the new thing.

Jumping too quickly now can lead to a potentially unwise  investment. It might not, but it probably will. Would you rather accidently invest in a mediocre thing that frustrates you and adds more distractions to your goals because it’s turning out to not be what you need?

Or would you rather hold off, tend to the things that you ACTUALLY trust, and allow the new idea to revisit you in the future, if it so desires. You will either be worse off to go that route, or better off.

Either way, you will be better off.
